Forthcoming shows featuring the same performers:
Fiddles, guitar, accordion, bagpipes and step dancing explode into life when Calan, the energetic young folk band from Wales, take to the stage. They breathe fire into the old traditions with their infectious rhythms and high voltage routines before melting into some of the most beautiful and haunting songs as they explore the legends of Wales’ very own fairy realm with tales of magic, myth and mischief.
With the release of their latest album Solomon, Calan tells the story of the old Welsh fairy realm and how sometimes mystic tales and Pokémon GO can come together get young people roaming the meadows. The Fairyland Trust have long since had the idea; they encourage children to explore nature by creating as they put it ‘… Magical Workshops through which children can learn about nature in a creative and imaginative way, using authentic British nature-based folklore.’ Folklore and folk music. Now that can’t be bad.
Calan have introduced a new generation of music fans to Welsh traditional music – and continue to do so as they tour across Wales, throughout the UK, Europe, North America and beyond. Great fun, a huge sense of humour, and step-dancing from a champion dancer makes for an outstanding show.
Support comes from English singer-songwriter Dan Wilde who has been performing his own brand of richly observant folk both in the UK and around the world for the past five years. And in that time, he’s developed a growing fanbase and a reputation amongst those who know as ‘a fantastic songwriting talent who without a doubt will deserve and demand your attention’ (Eclectically Challenged). In the past few years, he has supported Ethan Johns, Cara Dillon, Karine Polwart, Sam Carter, John Smith and Martin Taylor to name a few, and performed at some of the UK’s best-loved folk festivals – Cambridge Folk Festival, Kendal Calling, Beverley Festival and Galtres. Intimate and moving, Wilde’s work has a lyrical grace which is hard to match. Allow the song Pieces to pin you to the wall and you won’t want to come back down.

‘…there’s nowt as dear as folk – especially when played with the grace, daring and sheer joy this multi- instrumental five-piece bring to a winning selection of reels, jigs and hornpipes’ The Mirror
‘Folk just got a kick up of the Noughties… ..stunning use of instrumentation, gorgeously crafted songs, sprightly foot-tappers, verve and raw excitement’ Belfast Telegraph
