Tim Edey’s Celtic Christmas

Tim Edey, one of the world’s finest guitarists and melodeon players, presents a Celtic Christmas show at Kings Place, celebrating the various Christmas folk traditions from these islands, alongside music from his extensive repertoire.

Tim Edey has toured the world and recorded with most of the major names in Celtic/contemporary roots music including; The Chieftains, Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, Lunasa and Julie Fowlis, to name but a few. A double BBC Musician of the Year, BBC ALBA/Scotland Best Traditional Musician 2020, BBC Radio 2 Musician of the Year 2012 (BBC R2 FOLK AWARDS), Tim is a name on the world stage in his own right. After seventeen years of hard work, he is rated by many to be one of the world’s finest ever melodeon and guitar players in the folk & contemporary scene today.

Originally from Broadstairs in Kent and of Irish descent, Tim honed his style learning from his father Richard, a fine guitarist, and listening to Ed Boyd, Steve Cooney and Django Reinhardt. He has lived in Ireland and now resides in Perthshire, Scotland where he is based with his family and from where he tours all over the world regularly.

This event will last approximately 2 hours, including an interval.

Reviews

‘Tim again shows himself to be a musician who simply cannot be pigeon-holed, neither in terms of the instruments he excels at playing nor the styles of music he chooses. The only relevant pigeon-hole for Tim is one labelled ‘Brilliant’.’ Johnny Whalley, FOLK RADIO UK

‘One of the greatest melodeon players in the world.’ Mike Harding

‘Stunning.’ Aled Jones, BBC Radio 2

‘Tim Edey is brilliant – in every which way. As a guitarist, he has few peers. As a box player, he’s a magician. As a character he’s off the scale.’ Colin Irwin, fRoots
