A unique chamber trio performing captivating, intimate and uplifting jazz music, Simcock, Deurloo and Peirani are universally recognised as the finest exponents of their instruments.

Drawing from many different musical worlds, and featuring new work specially written for this new project, Simcock, Deurloo and Peirani are all hugely respected band leaders in their own right, and have come together through mutual admiration to form a unique chamber trio.

About the performers:

Hermine Deurloo, hailing from Amsterdam, Netherlands, is a conservatory-trained saxophonist who changed to the chromatic harmonica after being inspired by Toots Thielemans. With a strong foundation in jazz, she has carved a unique musical path, expanding the harmonica’s horizons to modern jazz, string quartets, big bands, African music, and film soundtracks. Her extensive career features collaborations with renowned jazz musicians and orchestras, such as the Metropole Orchestra and Al Jarreau. Notably, she was awarded the USA Bernie Bray Harmonica Player of the Year in 2018 and continues to innovate, most recently showcasing her talents in modern classical compositions with the SWR Orchestra.

Vincent Peirani, an acclaimed accordionist, is renowned for his captivating musical charisma and his unique approach to his art – all of which are the fruit of a very open, unblinkered attitude – strike the listener immediately. After excelling in classical music with numerous international awards, he seamlessly transitioned into the world of jazz, earning accolades like the Victoires du Jazz in 2014 (“Revelation”) and 2015 (“Artist of the Year”). His versatile talents extend to jazz, where he shines in his own projects and collaborations with Daniel Humair and Michel Portal. Beyond jazz, Peirani also collaborates with artists such as Sanseverino and Les Yeux Noirs, on film soundtracks (notably composing for Mathieu Almaric’s Barbara in 2017), and various other musical realms.

Gwilym Simcock has carved out a career as one of the most gifted pianists and imaginative composers on the European scene.  He moves effortlessly between jazz and classical music, with a ‘harmonic sophistication and subtle dovetailing of musical traditions’. Gwilym has been hailed as a pianist of ‘exceptional’, ‘brilliant’ and ‘dazzling’ ability, and his music has been widely acclaimed as ‘engaging, exciting, often unexpected, melodically enthralling, complex yet hugely accessible’, and above all ‘wonderfully optimistic’.
