The release of hitherto unsuspected recordings of the brass ensemble co-led by the gifted composer John Warren and master saxophonist John Surman drew terrific reviews for a suite distinguished by sumptuous ensemble voicings and deftly placed solo statements, all inspired by the extraordinary 19th century journeying of Warren’s grandfather.
