Julian Joseph’s ‘Atmospheres in Audio Theatre 60’ is a unique, immersive audio experience featuring specially composed pieces from Joseph, as well as a wide range of well-known repertoire including Paganini, Mozart, Coltrane and Shorter.
Julian Joseph presents an exciting and eclectic programme, with new music written for this special concert celebrating his upcoming 60th birthday.
Described as a revolution in the way we perceive sound, this concert is a must-see and hear – Julian’s new compositions aim to show how emotion and drama can be enhanced by technology. Marrying acoustic sound with live digital processing, Julian and his ensemble will create a world of sound that encapsulates the joy and spontaneity of live music.
This event will last approximately 90 minutes, including an interval.

£10 ‘Under 30s’ tickets
A limited number of £10 tickets for attendees aged under 30 are available for certain shows. To purchase an ‘Under 30s’ ticket, please choose the ‘Under 30s’ price type when selecting your ticket(s). If the option does not appear, this means all ‘Under 30s’ tickets have sold out or are not available for this performance. Please note that proof of age may be requested at the venue. The £10 offer does not apply to premium price categories.

The Venue
Our performance spaces are situated on the lower ground floor. Hall One, Hall Two and St Pancras are located in level -2, reached by stairs, escalator and lift from the ground floor entrance level.
Event Times
Door times indicate auditorium entrance times only. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the Kings Place seating areas, gallery-level art, canal-side terrace, café, restaurant and bar throughout the day and evening.
- Our events begin promptly at the advertised start time. Typically, there is no support unless otherwise stated.
- We recommend arriving in good time before the performance. The Hall doors will open 30 minutes before the performance to allow time to take your seats, or to choose a space for standing shows.
- Latecomers will be admitted at a suitable break in the performance where possible

Rotunda Bar & Restaurant
Rotunda, situated on the ground floor of Kings Place, offers a unique dining and drinking experience alongside Regent’s Canal. The concert bar in the venue foyer will also be open for select events.
Green & Fortune Café
Recently re-furbished and now open with a new look, the Green & Fortune Café is open for selected concerts. Serving hot and cold food and drinks, including sandwiches, salads, soup, stew and a pie of the day, alongside a choice of cakes made by the on-site bakery team. Julian Joseph
Acclaimed as one of the finest jazz musicians to emerge this side of the Atlantic, Julian Joseph has devoted his long career to championing the music across the British Isles and into the far corners of the globe. He has forged a reputation beyond his formidable skills as a composer and performer, and is universally recognised as a highly knowledgeable and engaging broadcaster, musical ambassador and cultural advocate. His charitable work and generous skills as an educator have made a major contribution to Britain’s cultural landscape and heritage.
Over the past 35 years, Julian has made ground-breaking advances for jazz in the UK. He was the first Black British jazz musician to host a series at London’s Wigmore Hall, and the first to headline a late-night concert at the BBC Proms with his All Star Big Band. As a composer Julian has written original works for symphony orchestra, big band and chamber ensemble, and received major commissions from the BBC, the Hackney Music Development Trust, the City of London Festival and the London Jazz Festival. His operas and dance works. Meanwhile, a new operatic work based on the legend of Tristan and Isolde was premiered at London’s Southbank Centre in the October of 2018.
As well as performing, recording, teaching and broadcasting (both on radio and TV), Julian has also recently turned to writing, publishing his first book, Music of Initiative, in 2018, in which he shares unique insights into the philosophy and practice of jazz performance. His work has been recognised by many major cultural organisations, including the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, which awarded him a Gold Badge in 2010. In 2019 he was awarded and OBE for his contribution to music.
