The UK’s leading jazz and groove choir, the London Vocal Project, are celebrating their 10th birthday in 2018 with a concert at Kings Place.
Comprising 24 professional singers and musicians, the choir has developed a signature sound of its own through the compositions and arrangements of musical director Pete Churchill.
The concert will feature favourites from LVP’s collaborations with Bobby McFerrin (performed in 2010 for Bobby’s VOCAbLaries album launch), Kenny Wheeler & Norma Winstone (for 2013’s album Mirrors), and Jon Hendricks (Jon’s complete lyricisation of the album Miles Ahead, premiered by LVP in 2017 first in New York, then at Kings Place)
The programme also includes music from Abdullah Ibrahim, Nikki Iles, Tim Whitehead and Pete Churchill, along with arrangements of classic jazz and groove tunes.
‘The singers of the London Vocal Project are something else. Not only do they sound like a coherent ensemble – a real band – with a signature sound like no other choir on the scene, they have the technique to stretch and adapt their sound… (and) yet they wear their learning lightly.’ London Jazz News
