Margarita Escarpa is one of the world’s leading classical guitarists.

Margarita won various national and international prizes including the prestigious ‘20th Solo Guitar Competition’ of the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA).

She has recorded extensively for RTVE, Opera Tres, Naxos, La Ma de Guido and GHA Records. Critics and audiences have all raved about her artistic sensitivity and superb technical ability. This is a unique chance to study with this very special artist.

Escarpa has continually reaped many successes and she is now considered one of the main contemporary classical guitarists. In 1992, she won the Extraordinary End of Studies Prize of the Royal Superior Music Conservatory of Madrid were she studied under the most distinguished music teachers as well as receiving the advice of the most outstanding guitarists. Shortly after, she obtained her Bachelors degree in mathematics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. While still a student, she won eight international prizes in addition to various national ones. Her triumph in the international ‘20th Solo Guitar Competition’ of the Guitar Foundation of America was a decisive moment in her career as a performer and ever since she has been at the top of the international guitar scene. She regularly participates in the most important festivals of Europe, Asia and America.


About the festival

London Guitar Festival 2018 features a wonderful series of concerts, masterclasses and competitions. We look forward to an exciting line-up of major international artists and young artist making their debuts. Europe’s foremost Flamenco act, the Gerardo Nuñez Quintet is headlining the Friday night, and the amazing Ana Vidovic concludes the Big Night of the Guitar on Saturday evening.  This year we especially welcome performances from exciting YOUNG STARS as part of the new EuroStrings Project, as well as our own Young Artist Platform and Aspire stage.
