This October Kings Place proudly presents a new festival of adventurous music, Luminate.

An extension of Kings Place’s long-running series of the same name, Luminate festival will spotlight a diverse array of artists united by an ethos of sonic exploration.

The 4 day venue-takeover represents a new go-to event for adventurous music fans in London and beyond, showcasing electrifying performances from new UK talent and established international artists.

The festival will also boast a number of specially commissioned spatial live performances and installations which make use of d&b audiotecknik’s 360 Soundscape system, recently described in The Wire as ‘quite possibly the best sound I’ve ever experienced’.

Line up: aya, Daniel Blumberg, Ellen Arkbro & Johan Graden, Dawuna, Voice Actor, caroline, Space Afrika, felicita, Colleen, FAUZIA and Theon Cross (+ more to be announced).

Opening our inaugural festival edition of Luminate is one of the most exciting producers to emerge out of the UK this past decade. aya (fka LOFT) of Hyperdub records, will present a specially-commissioned live performance in which she reconfigures her sound for d&b audiotechnik’s 360 Soundscape system, exploring its boundless sonic potential. Closing the chapter on her disorientingly creative debut LP 'im hole', this is a one-off, unmissable show for fans of off-kilter, mutated club music.

Daniel Blumberg presents GUT + Ellen Arkbro & Johan Graden

For Luminate, we are excited to present an intimate double bill from Daniel Blumberg and Ellen Arkbro & Johan Graden. Blumberg’s new album GUT, released earlier this year has been hailed as “beauty and magnificent brutality in equal measure” (Louder Than War) while Arkbro & Graden’s 'I get along with you very well' has been described as an “unencumbered, disrobed record where nothing is superfluous and everything vibrates with truth” (Free Jazz Collective).

Dawuna + Voice Actor

The experimental yet effortless R&B of Dawuna conjures an intoxicating story world in which he is the mysterious protagonist. His staggeringly beautiful 2021 album Glass Lit Dream has become an underground hit, beautifully rendering gospel, soul, R&B, and dance into a texturally rich and otherworldly whole. Dawuna is joined on this co-headline bill by Voice Actor whose debut LP Sent From My Telephone, was released quietly last year via Stroom and is a wildly ambitious masterpiece of hallucinatory pop spanning 109 tracks!

Space Afrika

Kings Place Artists-in-Residence for 2023, Space Afrika, return following an unforgettable sell out show in January, to premiere a new immersive listening experience for Luminate. Hear the master sound collagists harness the potential of d&b audiotechnik’s 360 Soundscape system, as they present all-new material. Please be aware this is an immersive playback event and not a live show.

PC Music’s resident experimentalist felicita twists and contorts 21st century pop into high concept, hallucinatory sonic experiences. Following the release of their kalaedoscopic new record Spalarkle, felicita presents a specially developed Spalarkle live show utilising d&b audiotechnik’s 360 Soundscape system. They will perform in-the-round.

Following her sell-out debut headline show as part of the Southbank’s Purcell Sessions, producer, DJ and singer FAUZIA, presents a specially-commissioned spatialised live show for Luminate, with cellist and co-writer Maddie Ashman. They will perform in-the-round and utilising d&b audiotechnik’s immersive Soundscape system.

Colleen

Colleen thrives on reinvention. For over two decades under the name, French artist Cécile Schott has continuously pushed her compositional practice into new directions. Her creative approaches have included complex samples and loops, instrumental processing and even dub production techniques applied to the baroque viola da gamba.

Theon Cross

Seeing Theon Cross live is to witness him pushing the sonic possibilities of the tuba into another dimension. Following his sold-out and utterly unique solo performance at Kings Place in 2021, we are thrilled to have Theon back, this time performing as a duo alongside guitarist Nikos Ziarkis, as they present a spatialised live show, performing in-the-round and utlilising d&b Soundscape.
