For the second iteration of the series, Pouya Ehsaei will be joined by Yelfris Valdés, a Cuban trumpeter taking inspirations from Yoruba traditions and Cuban and jazz music. Yelfris has collaborated with Sierra Maestra, Chucho Valdés, Moses Boyd, Kano and Ariwo. Hammadi Rencurrell Valdes a dynamic percussionist and musical director who has worked closely with legendary dancer, Carlos Acosta, for over a decade, and been involved in the production of seminal albums like “Irakere 30 años", and Chucho Valdés’ “New Conceptions”, which was awarded a Latin Grammy. Hammadi is also the co-founder of the Cuban-Iranian band Ariwo.
Joining Pouya Ehsaei for the third iteration of the series, Sarah Tandy is an inspiring bandleader and keyboard player whose compositions are steeped in the rich traditions of jazz whilst enthusiastically rupturing the confines of the genre. Afla Sackey, Ghanaian-born percussionist, vocalist and composer who started his creative life as a dancer with the Bukom Ensemble of Ghana, known for their infectious folk-driven rhythms. Afla’s elders soon recognised the musical potential of this youth and encouraged him with careful guidance and training. This provided the foundations upon which Sackey has developed his career in music and dance. Wonky Logic, aka Dwayne Kilvington, who is an upcoming force on the left-field hip-hop scene – blending soulful electronics with crunk beats.
