They perform a spine-tingling repertoire of folk songs in traditional and contemporary arrangements: some tell powerful tales of love and loss, fighting and celebration, while others are inspired by the daily fabric of life. Sung in a complex and unique vocal style, featuring dissonant harmonies, compelling rhythms and exuberant trills and hiccups, the Choir’s heartfelt performances transcend language barriers and can move audiences to tears.
The choir overcame the challenges of the pandemic by continuing to rehearse online, and outdoors in parks and city centre tunnels, emerging last May as one of the first live performances of 2021 in Kings Place, to a rapturous reception.
The choir has released three albums, Alyana Galyana (2007), Goro Le Goro (2012), and Songs of Forbidden Love (2019).

‘The music they produce is difficult and complex – [the choir] achieves an excellence that is breathtaking.’ Roderick Williams, singer
