The 150th anniversary of the birth of Ralph Vaughan Williams is celebrated with the iconic The Lark Ascending as well as his 3 Shakespeare Songs. Stanford’s famous The Bluebird is included, as are works from VOCES8’s current composer-in-residence Roxanna Panufnik, Jonathan Dove and Paul Smith. Bridging the Atlantic are works for voices and strings by some of the USA’s most exciting composers: Ola Gjeilo, Caroline Shaw, Eric Whitacre, Taylor Scott Davis and Samuel Barber whose cherished Agnus Dei / Adagio for Strings will be performed in a new version.
The cherry on top is a suite of movements from the group’s new Decca Classics album release The Lost Birds by Christopher Tin, completing the sound-world for what promises to be a very special concert.
