Rabbi Levy and Norman Lebrecht

Jewish Book Week

Rabbi Levy speaker
Norman Lebrecht chair

Rabbi Abraham Levy’s memoir, co-written with Simon Rocker, is an invaluable testimony to religious faith in an increasingly secular and conflicted world.

Written with great charm and humour and lively and telling anecdotes, it tells of his devotion to, and exceptional influence on, Jewish public life and the Sephardi London community for over 50 years.

Abraham Levy was born in Gibraltar in 1939 to a prominent Spanish and Portuguese Jewish family who had taken refuge in Gibraltar in the 18th century. He attended Carmel College in the UK and subsequently studied for the Rabbinate at Jews’ College. Rabbi Levy served as Head of the Sephardi community and received an OBE for services to inter-faith understanding.

Norman Lebrecht is a cultural commentator and an award-winning novelist. He has written 12 books about music which have been translated into 17 languages. Two collections of his essays have been published in China, the first such anthologies by any western cultural writer. His blog Slipped Disc has become the world’s most-read cultural news and views site in English, drawing well over one million readers every month.
