After Winter: A Song for Marj

Jewish Book Week 2025

Mark Glanville Singer
Amaraterra Ensemble
Anna Lowenstein Klezmer Violinist

Singer Mark Glanville returns to Kings Place with a homage to his late partner Marjorie Morrison – and to music, the art form that enabled him to cope with her passing.

A celebration of life as much as a response to loss, After Winter unites songs from a variety of musical traditions including Yiddish, Chazzanut, Celtic and Pugliese. The programme features several original compositions receiving their world premieres at Jewish Book Week. Performing alongside Glanville will be the internationally renowned traditional Pugliese group Amaraterrra and the outstanding klezmer violinist Anna Lowenstein.

This event will last approximately 1 hour, without an interval.

About our performer:

After studying Classics at Oxford University and singing at the RNCM, Mark Glanville performed as Bass soloist for Opera North, Scottish Opera, Lisbon Opera, Israeli Opera, Opera Zuid, and in concert with Yehudi Menuhin, Daniele Gatti, Stanisław Skrowaczewski and David Willcocks. His Yiddish Winterreise was performed at Kennedy Center, Leeds Lieder Festival, Purcell Room and recorded for Naxos. His memoir, The Goldberg Variations, was shortlisted for the Wingate Prize for Jewish Literature.
