The Queen’s platinum jubilee next year would be a first for a British monarch, one of many she has set since her accession in 1952. The period has been one of extraordinary transformation for the nation, which Andrew Marr has charted in his Sunday Times bestseller Elizabethans: How Modern Britain Was Forged and the accompanying BBC1 series New Elizabethans. He tells this seven-decade story through individuals – both household names and those less celebrated – from Lucian Freud, Jacob Bronowski and Sylvia Plath to Joan Collins, Jan Morris and Marcus Rashford. In this special in-person and online Jewish Book Week event, one of the country’s most respected broadcasters joins Zaki Cooper, previously adviser to Rabbi Lord Sacks and Buckingham Palace.

Andrew Marr currently hosts BBC 1’s Andrew Marr Show, and presents Radio 4’s Start the Week. He is a former editor of the Independent and BBC Political Editor. His acclaimed television documentary series include Andrew Marr’s History of Modern Britain and Andrew Marr’s The Making of Modern Britain.

Zaki Cooper founded the podcast, Desert Island Books, with Jewish News in 2019, and has interviewed a number of well-known figures. He is co-author of a book on cricket grounds and has written widely. He advises leaders and family offices on their philanthropy and communications, having previously worked in a broad range of communications roles, at Buckingham Palace, for the Chief Rabbi and in the City.
