Cracking the Mystery of Mystery Show

Starlee Kine in conversation with Caroline Crampton

Starlee Kine is the creator of Mystery Show, a podcast that solved everyday mysteries, the sort of mysteries that can’t be solved by Googling. Like ‘how can a video store disappear overnight?’ and ‘exactly how tall is Jake Gyllenhaal?’ Mystery Show is about the wonder that happens offline, the human connections that happen on the way to each solution.

The first season of Mystery Show was a sensation, topping the international podcast charts and celebrated by iTunes as the Best New Podcast of 2015. It was praised by critics and loved by fans for its mix of in-depth reporting and surprising story turns. When news of its cancellation broke, the podcast world was left in shock.

Starlee joins us at the London Podcast Festival to talk about Mystery Show, her work on This American Life, and all things podcasting.

Starlee Kine is an American podcaster, and writer. She was the creator and host of the podcast Mystery Show. Her work has regularly been featured on This American Life. She is also a writer for the television show Search Party on TBS.

Starlee will be in conversation with Caroline Crampton. Caroline is the head of podcasts for the New Statesman and the host of the pop culture show SRSLY. She runs a popular newsletter reporting on the podcast industry and her journalism has been published by publications including the Guardian, Lenny and the Mail on Sunday.
