2025 Booker Prize Shortlisted novelist Benjamin Markovits and prolific critic and author Michael Arditti unpack the peculiarities of Jewish storytelling in conversation with Amanda Craig.
Two acclaimed novelists explore the tangled bonds of family through distinctly Jewish lenses. Michael Arditti’s The Tribe follows a Sephardic dynasty from Salonica to France, tracing love, conflict and survival across continents and the upheavals of the twentieth century. Benjamin Markovits’s The Rest of Our Lives offers a quieter, contemporary portrait: a midlife journey across America in the wake of marital rupture, suffused with reflection on belonging and the ties that shape us. In conversation with writer Amanda Craig, they discuss Jewish storytelling, the legacies families carry, and the enduring power of fiction to illuminate our most intimate worlds.

£10 ‘Under 30s’ tickets
A limited number of £10 tickets for attendees aged under 30 are available for certain shows. To purchase an ‘Under 30s’ ticket, please choose the ‘Under 30s’ price type when selecting your ticket(s). If the option does not appear, this means all ‘Under 30s’ tickets have sold out or are not available for this performance. Please note that proof of age may be requested at the venue. The £10 offer does not apply to premium price categories.

The Venue
Our performance spaces are situated on the lower ground floor. Hall One, Hall Two and St Pancras are located in level -2, reached by stairs, escalator and lift from the ground floor entrance level.
Event Times
Door times indicate auditorium entrance times only. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the Kings Place seating areas, gallery-level art, canal-side terrace, café, restaurant and bar throughout the day and evening.
- Our events begin promptly at the advertised start time. Typically, there is no support unless otherwise stated.
- We recommend arriving in good time before the performance. The Hall doors will open 30 minutes before the performance to allow time to take your seats, or to choose a space for standing shows.
- Latecomers will be admitted at a suitable break in the performance where possible

Rotunda Bar & Restaurant
Rotunda, situated on the ground floor of Kings Place, offers a unique dining and drinking experience alongside Regent’s Canal. The concert bar in the venue foyer will also be open for select events.
Green & Fortune Café
Recently re-furbished and now open with a new look, the Green & Fortune Café is open for selected concerts. Serving hot and cold food and drinks, including sandwiches, salads, soup, stew and a pie of the day, alongside a choice of cakes made by the on-site bakery team. Michael Arditti
Michael Arditti is an acclaimed novelist, short-story writer and critic. His novels are The Celibate (1993), Pagan and her Parents (1996), Easter (2000), Unity (2005), A Sea Change (2006), The Enemy of the Good (2009), Jubilate (2011), The Breath of Night (2013), Widows and Orphans (2015), Of Men and Angels (2018), The Anointed (2020), The Young Pretender (2022) and The Choice (2023). He was awarded an Honorary D Litt from the University of Chester and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
Benjamin Markovits
Benjamin Markovits is the author of eleven novels. He has published essays, stories, poetry and reviews on subjects ranging from the Romantics to American sports in The Guardian, Granta, The Paris Review and The New York Times. He lives in London and teaches creative writing at Royal Holloway, University of London.
Amanda Craig
Amanda Craig is a British novelist, short-story writer and critic. After a brief time in advertising and PR, she became a journalist, winning both the Young Journalist of the Year and the Catherine Pakenham Award. Her novels Hearts and Minds and The Golden Rule were both longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction.
