Peace with the Palestinians remains elusive but, given soaring economic disparity, the widening gulf between secular, moderately religious and ultra-Orthodox, the increasingly vocal Arab minority, and the further splintering of consensus between far-left and far-right, does the real threat come from within? Our panel looks to the future.

Yael Dayan served as a member of the Israeli Knesset between 1992 and 2003, and from 2008 to 2013 was the chair of Tel Aviv city council. She was an officer in the Israel Defence Force and enjoyed a successful career as an author and newspaper columnist. She has published five novels, a memoir of the Six Day War, entitled Israel Journal: June 1967, and a biography of her father, Moshe Dayan – My Father, His Daughter.

Daniel Goldman is founder of Goldrock Capital and chairs Gesher, building bridges between secular religious and Haredi communities in Israel, and has been active in multiple social ventures. He publishes Op-Eds in the Israeli English and Hebrew press.

Sir Tom Phillips, former Ambassador to Israel and to Saudi Arabia, is currently Commandant of the Royal College of Defence Studies. He is an Associate Fellow of Chatham Houses’s Middle East and North Africa programme.

Yaacov Yadgar is the Stanley Lewis Professor of Israel Studies at the University of Oxford. His multidisciplinary research revolves around issues of Jewish identity, religion, politics and secularism. He has published many articles and several books, his latest being Sovereign Jews: Israel, Zionism and Judaism.

Adam LeBor is the author of five novels and eight non-fiction books. Hitler’s Secret Bankers, his groundbreaking exposé of Swiss economic complicity with the Nazis, was shortlisted for the Orwell Prize, and City of Oranges, a history of Jaffa told through the lives of Arab and Jewish families, was shortlisted for the JQ Wingate Prize. He divides his time between Budapest and London.
