Poetry London launches its Autumn 2017 issue with readings from Nuar Alsadir, Oli Hazzard, Liz Berry and the winners of this year’s Poetry London Competition. The evening will be hosted by this issue’s Guest Poetry Editor Sarah Howe.

Nuar Alsadir is a poet, writer, and psychoanalyst. She is the author of the poetry collections Fourth Person Singular (2017), shortlisted for the 2017 Forward Prize for Best Collection; and More Shadow Than Bird (Salt Publishing, 2012). Her poems and essays have appeared in numerous publications, including Granta, The New York Times Magazine, Slate, Grand Street, The Kenyon Review, Ploughshares, tender, Magma, The Awl and The Poetry Review. Alsadir is on the faculty at New York University, and she works as a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst in private practice in New York.

Oli Hazzard’s first collection of poems, Between Two Windows (Carcanet, 2012), won the English Association’s Michael Murphy Memorial Prize, an Eric Gregory Award from the Society of Authors, and was a book of the year in the Guardian, Financial Times and Times Literary Supplement. A pamphlet of prose poems, Within Habit, was published by Test Centre in 2014. His new collection, Blotter, will be published in February.

Liz Berry’s debut collection, Black Country (Chatto & Windus, 2014), was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, received a Somerset Maugham Award, won the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Award and won the Forward Prize for Best First Collection 2014. Black Country was chosen as a book of the year by the Guardian, The Telegraph, The Mail, The Big Issue and The Morning Star. Liz’s poems have been broadcast on BBC Radio, television and recorded for the Poetry Archive. Liz is the judge of this year’s Poetry London Competition.
