Hannah French | Broadcaster & Musicologist |

Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons is a revolutionary set of violin concertos that remain Vivaldi’s most-loved works. Each concerto gives expression to a season of the year and invites the listener to witness the sounds of both ancient festivals and the beauty and brutality of the natural world.
On November 5, broadcaster and musicologist Hannah French joins us live to celebrate the 300th anniversary of The Four Seasons and explore why this classic work still resonates today. Joined on stage by musicians to perform excerpts, French will explore the rich imagery of each concerto and discuss the art of listening seasonally throughout the year.
Drawing from her new book The Rolling Year, French will also uncover the detail of Vivaldi’s personal and creative life, and the lasting cultural impact of his work. Based on her interviews with fellow musicians and experts in health, nature, food, wine, and science, she will help to bring new perspectives to the masterpiece that continues to reveal new truths to listeners today.
Join us for an evening of live music and discussion at Kings Place, and have your questions answered in the audience Q&A.

‘Vivaldi’s Four Seasons come round as reliably as spring, summer, autumn and winter, so reliably you might think there’s nothing more to say about them. Wrong. Hannah French’s fascinating, seasonally-structured exploration restores their freshness, their glow, their mellowness, their chill, so effectively it is like discovering them for the first time.’ Reverend Richard Coles
