The Future of Liberal Democracy

Jewish Book Week

Michael Gove speaker
Richard Hurowitz speaker
John R. MacArthur speaker
Camilla Long chair

Editor of The Spectator and former Cabinet minister Michael Gove joins a panel of thinkers and writers to discuss the health of the principles and traditions that underpin liberal democracy.

As political polarisation widens and populist movements gain ground on both sides of the Atlantic, long-standing assumptions about liberal democracy are being tested. This panel brings together Michael Gove, former Cabinet minister and now editor of The Spectator; Richard Hurowitz, publisher of The Octavian Report and author of In the Garden of the Righteous; and John R. MacArthur, president of Harper’s Magazine and columnist for Le Devoir, in conversation with journalist Camilla Long. They will reflect on the principles that have shaped the liberal tradition – pluralism, civic responsibility and an open society – and consider how contemporary pressures are altering public life, including the experience of Jewish communities today.

This event will last approximately 1 hour, with no interval.
