Community Spotlight: Queer Britain
Feature
Community Spotlights are a celebration of the vibrant cultural landscape that Kings Place is part of.
Highlighting organisations, events and initiatives in King’s Cross and the surrounding area, we’re helping you make the most of your visit to Kings Place while you support the local community.
In this feature, the spotlight falls on Queer Britain.
Based just down Regents Canal from Kings Place, Queer Britain is the first and only museum in the UK dedicated to queer history, culture and creativity.
As a charity, they work to platform LGBTQ+ stories, combatting stigma and erasure while also creating communities and opportunities to uplift artists from various intersections of queer identity.
‘a space where queer people can come and gather, connect with the community and learn about themselves and their history.’
The museum is fully accessible and all exhibitions are free to visit weekly from Wednesday to Sunday.
‘it helps to destigmatize and debunk a lot of the myths that were pervasive and some that are still existing.’
As part of our Pride Month celebrations back in June, we visited Queer Britain to catch up with a member of the team. Watch the video below to hear all about:
- opportunities for LGBTQ+ artists
- up-coming events (concerts, exhibitions, markets, workshops)
- ways to support the museum, and more!
Visit the Queer Britain website to find out more about the museum’s history, projects and events.
