Showcasing the virtuosity of each instrument through its six movements, Beethoven’s Septet was one of his most successful works, performed again and again in Vienna after its premiere in 1800. Combining charm and exuberance, it spans the forms of serenade, divertimento and serious ensemble music with élan.
Principals of the legendary Academy of St Martin in the Fields open the concert with Mozart’s captivating Horn Quintet, written with affection for his Salzburg friend, horn player Joseph Leutgeb.
