Principal Players of Aurora Orchestra are joined by one of London Unwrapped’s Artists in Residence, the composer, band-leader and saxophonist Cassie Kinoshi for a special new collaboration with members of her Mercury Prize nominated ensemble seed.
Kinoshi describes her newly-commissioned Three Suns Suite as ‘a collection of pieces to honour my heritage through the lenses of joy and celebration.’ For Kinoshi, ‘one of the closest connections I have to my ancestral countries is via my grandparents – their stories, their languages and cultural influence.’ Cast in four movements, Three Suns Suite interweaves Kinoshi’s memories of childhood with more recent experiences of connecting with her grandparents and their respective homelands.
Cassie Kinoshi (b. 1993) is an artist in residence for London Unwrapped. She is a Mercury Award nominated and Ivors Academy Award winning London-based composer, arranger and alto-saxophonist. She is currently working in theatre, film, contemporary dance and both the jazz and classical performance worlds. Cassie is best known for her work with her large ensemble seed. alongside bands Kokoroko and Nerija. She was Mercury Musical Developments’ and Musical Theatre Network’s Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer Scheme recipient at Dundee Rep Theatre from 2018-19 and was a part of the London Symphony Orchestra Panufnik Scheme 2018-19.
