In January 2016, Aurora embarked on Mozart’s Piano, the first complete performance cycle of Mozart’s piano concertos ever staged in the UK. After six years and 25 concerts – plus a global pandemic – the orchestra finally reaches the end of this kaleidoscopic journey. Spanish soloist Javier Perianes makes his eagerly-awaited Kings Place debut with Mozart’s final Piano Concerto, No. 27 in B flat (K595).
The programme also marks the end of London Unwrapped, the thirteenth edition of Kings Place’s twice-award-winning year-long series, celebrating the sounds of the city. Water Music was composed in 1717 by London’s finest imported composer, George Frideric Handel, at the request of King George I. Performed from barges, it accompanied King George’s excursion up the River Thames from Whitehall Palace to Chelsea; Handel’s floating orchestra reportedly performed Water Music continuously from early evening until after midnight. Firmly rooted to the Hall One stage, Aurora Orchestra will deliver a complete performance of this masterpiece.
