Cellist Christopher Suckling performs a selection of Bach’s much-loved cello suites, in the transcending acoustics of Hall One.

Bach‘s solo cello suites represent one of the great technical challenges for that instrument, but what astonishes the listener is the emotional range of these beautiful works. Each suite takes us on an intensely personal journey: preludes of great emotional depth are followed by dances juxtaposing light-hearted gigues with sarabandes of heart-breaking beauty.

As well as being a baroque cellist of renowned virtuosity, Christopher Suckling is a leading expert on cello performance in the baroque era and has made a life-long study of Bach’s wonderful masterpieces.
