Beethoven by Heart: The Complete Experience begins with Op. 132, as the Sacconi Quartet and director Tom Morris invite audiences inside three late Beethoven quartets, performed entirely from memory across one extraordinary day.
The first concert in this special day-long celebration of Beethoven’s late string quartets presents the visionary String Quartet No. 15 in A minor, Op. 132.
Written following a serious illness, the work contains some of Beethoven’s most intimate and deeply personal music, most notably the moving Heiliger Dankgesang (‘Holy Song of Thanksgiving’), a meditation on recovery, gratitude and the fragility of life.
Balancing moments of serenity with passages of restless energy and exuberance, Op. 132 reveals a composer pushing the boundaries of the quartet form while confronting questions of mortality, faith and transcendence.
Across three concerts, audiences have the rare opportunity to experience Op. 132 alongside Op. 130 and Op. 131, tracing the remarkable creative journey of Beethoven’s final years through works that continue to challenge, move and inspire nearly two centuries after they were written.
Get closer to the music with relaxed beanbag seating at the heart of the performance space. Choose a beanbag or a chair on arrival. Both are unreserved and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
This event will last for approximately 80 minutes with no interval.

£10 ‘Under 30s’ tickets
A limited number of £10 tickets are available for certain shows to attendees aged under 30. To access Under 30s tickets, update your account with your Date of Birth. Please visit the account centre to add your Date of Birth.
If £10 tickets are available, the ticket discount will apply automatically at checkout. If the discount does not apply, this means all ‘Under 30s’ tickets have sold out for the performance.

The Venue
Our performance spaces are situated on the lower ground floor. Hall One, Hall Two and St Pancras are located in level -2, reached by stairs, escalator and lift from the ground floor entrance level.
Event Times
Door times indicate auditorium entrance times only. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the Kings Place seating areas, gallery-level art, canal-side terrace, café, restaurant and bar throughout the day and evening.
- Our events begin promptly at the advertised start time. Typically, there is no support unless otherwise stated.
- We recommend arriving in good time before the performance. The Hall doors will open 30 minutes before the performance to allow time to take your seats, or to choose a space for standing shows.
- Latecomers will be admitted at a suitable break in the performance where possible

Rotunda, situated on the ground floor of Kings Place, offers a unique dining and drinking experience alongside Regent’s Canal. The concert bar in the venue foyer will also be open for select events.
Green & Fortune Café
Recently re-furbished and now open with a new look, the Green & Fortune Café is open for selected concerts. Serving hot and cold food and drinks, including sandwiches, salads, soup, stew and a pie of the day, alongside a choice of cakes made by the on-site bakery team. About Sacconi Quartet
Britain’s longest-established string quartet, the Sacconi Quartet have been captivating audiences for twenty-five years with their unanimous and compelling ensemble, consistently communicating with a fresh and imaginative approach. Formed in 2001, the four founder members share an unwavering passion for the string quartet repertoire, infectiously reaching out to audiences with their energy and enthusiasm. The Sacconis enjoy a busy international career, performing regularly across the world, at Europe’s major venues, on recordings and in radio broadcasts. The Sacconi Quartet is Quartet in Association at the Royal College of Music and Quartet in Residence for the town of Folkestone.
About Tom Morris
Tom Morris is a theatre director, writer and producer. He was Associate Director at the National Theatre in London before taking over as Artistic Director of Bristol Old Vic from 2009 to 2022. He has previously worked in broadcasting and journalism, as a critic and feature writer for The Times Literary Supplement, The Independent, The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian and The Observer. Morris was Artistic Director of Battersea Arts Centre before taking up his post at the National Theatre in 2004. In 2011, he won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play for the Broadway production of War Horse, along with co-director Marianne Elliott.
