Beethoven by Heart culminates with Op. 131, completing a rare day-long journey through three late quartets as director Tom Morris and the Sacconi Quartet perform entirely from memory in the intimacy of Hall Two.
The final concert of this complete Beethoven quartet day culminates with String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131, widely regarded as one of the composer’s supreme achievements. Unfolding across seven interconnected movements without pause, the work creates a vast musical journey that defies convention and continues to astonish listeners nearly two centuries after its creation.
By turns searching, lyrical, dramatic and transcendent, Op. 131 pushes the string quartet to unprecedented expressive heights. Its influence can be traced across generations of composers, yet its originality remains undimmed.
Following performances of Op. 132 and Op. 130 earlier in the day, this concluding concert brings together a rare traversal of three late masterpieces. Experienced as a whole, these quartets reveal the full breadth of Beethoven’s imagination and the enduring power of music that still feels revolutionary today.

£10 ‘Under 30s’ tickets
A limited number of £10 tickets are available for certain shows to attendees aged under 30. To access Under 30s tickets, update your account with your Date of Birth. Please visit the account centre to add your Date of Birth.
If £10 tickets are available, the ticket discount will apply automatically at checkout. If the discount does not apply, this means all ‘Under 30s’ tickets have sold out for the performance.

The Venue
Our performance spaces are situated on the lower ground floor. Hall One, Hall Two and St Pancras are located in level -2, reached by stairs, escalator and lift from the ground floor entrance level.
Event Times
Door times indicate auditorium entrance times only. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the Kings Place seating areas, gallery-level art, canal-side terrace, café, restaurant and bar throughout the day and evening.
- Our events begin promptly at the advertised start time. Typically, there is no support unless otherwise stated.
- We recommend arriving in good time before the performance. The Hall doors will open 30 minutes before the performance to allow time to take your seats, or to choose a space for standing shows.
- Latecomers will be admitted at a suitable break in the performance where possible

Rotunda, situated on the ground floor of Kings Place, offers a unique dining and drinking experience alongside Regent’s Canal. The concert bar in the venue foyer will also be open for select events.

Recently re-furbished and now open with a new look, the Green & Fortune Café is open for selected concerts. Serving hot and cold food and drinks, including sandwiches, salads, soup, stew and a pie of the day, alongside a choice of cakes made by the on-site bakery team. About Sacconi Quartet
Britain’s longest-established string quartet, the Sacconi Quartet have been captivating audiences for twenty-five years with their unanimous and compelling ensemble, consistently communicating with a fresh and imaginative approach. Formed in 2001, the four founder members share an unwavering passion for the string quartet repertoire, infectiously reaching out to audiences with their energy and enthusiasm. The Sacconis enjoy a busy international career, performing regularly across the world, at Europe’s major venues, on recordings and in radio broadcasts. The Sacconi Quartet is Quartet in Association at the Royal College of Music and Quartet in Residence for the town of Folkestone.
About Tom Morris
Tom Morris is a theatre director, writer and producer. He was Associate Director at the National Theatre in London before taking over as Artistic Director of Bristol Old Vic from 2009 to 2022. He has previously worked in broadcasting and journalism, as a critic and feature writer for The Times Literary Supplement, The Independent, The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian and The Observer. Morris was Artistic Director of Battersea Arts Centre before taking up his post at the National Theatre in 2004. In 2011, he won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play for the Broadway production of War Horse, along with co-director Marianne Elliott.
