|Mendelssohn||String Quartet No. 6 in F minor, Op. 80|
The renowned Carducci Quartet bring a wide-ranging programme that begins with one of the best-loved quartets from Haydn’s Op. 20 set, with its beautiful set of variations in the second movement.
Britten’s First Quartet from the 1930s follows, and afterwards we hear another British work, the new Quintet by Kate Whitley, with the composer at the piano.
The concert culminates in Mendelssohn’s passionate and stormy final quartet, composed in the last year of his life.
Kate Whitley’s Quintet for piano and strings was commissioned by The Carducci Music Trust with a grant from the Coln Trust.
