A special double bill featuring guitarist Goran Krivokapic and Baroque lute player Nigel North.
A unique recital entitled Capriccio by the magnificent lutenist Nigel North who has been described as the greatest player in the history of the instrument. He presents his new CD on BGS Records, the fourth in a series of the music of the great baroque composer and lutenist Sylvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750). Both as virtuoso performer and as composer Weiss can be seen as a peer of keyboard players such as J.S. Bach and Domenico Scarlatti, both of whom he knew well. He left the largest corpus of music for lute of any composer in the history of the instrument and contemporaries said about him that ‘in his art he is equalled only by himself’.
Programme: music by Sylvius Leopold Weiss
Ouverture and Aria in C major, Fantasie
Concerto and Plainte in B flat major
Ouverture, Sonata and Fuga in D minor
Tombeau sur la Mort de Mr Comte de Logy (1721)
