‘Montero’s playing had everything: crackling rhythmic brio, subtle shadings, steely power… soulful lyricism… unsentimental expressivity.’ The New York Times
‘There are not many artists of whom it can truly be said that their talent borders on genius.’ ConcertoNet
Gabriela Montero’s visionary interpretations and unique compositional gifts have garnered her critical acclaim and a devoted following on the world stage.
In this glittering programme, The Immigrant, she views early works of Rachmaninov, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, all of whom emigrated to America, through the prism of Charlie Chaplin’s legendary film. Opening with their volcanic early sonatas, Montero will then create her own soundtrack to Chaplin’s tragi-comic vision of humanity, The Immigrant, for which he himself composed a score. In this special sequence, she conjures up Chaplin’s prized encounters with all three composers in his home on Sunset Boulevard.
