Gifted young artist Gautier Capuçon is a beloved collaborator of conductors and musicians the world over. Here, he and Frank Braley pay homage to the legendary recitals of Rostropovich and Britten, with Beethoven’s vivacious first sonata, the colourful commedia dell’arte tale that is Debussy’s sonata, and the first work Rostropovich inspired from Britten, the Sonata in C, a portrait of the inimitable cellist. They include two of Fauré’s most famous melodies, one sombre, one sensuous, and Martinů’s folk-inflected variations.
