The Brodsky Quartet present two towering masterpieces of the quartet repertoire, framing the London premiere of Stephen Johnson’s String Quartet.
Beethoven’s majestic Quartet in A Minor, Op. 132 blazes against Shostakovich’s deeply reflective Quartet No. 7. Both bear the imprint of the troubled times through which they lived. As the eminent author and composer Stephen Johnson, (How Shostakovich Changed My Mind), writes: ‘my quartet is a tribute to those giants, charting a journey through loss, but leading to something more hopeful and liberating.’
