The concert highlights the amazing versatility of the guitar: from the dazzling virtuosity of the 19th century guitar played by Phillipe Villa to the world premiere of Profiles by Andrea Balency Bearn for electric guitar played by brilliant young talent Luke Bartlett.

About Luke Bartlett:
Luke Bartlett is a classical and electric guitarist from Bristol. In 2023 he became a recipient of the prestigious Julian Bream Trust scholarship and made his London debut at King’s Place as an IGF Young Artist Platform awardee. Upon completion of his studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, he graduated with First Class Honours, receiving the Simon Clarkson Memorial Award for best all-round musicianship, the Orpheus Prize for voice & guitar and was twice winner of the John Mills Prize for solo guitar.
About Philippe Villa:
Philippe Villa is one of the most brilliant virtuosos of the 19th century guitar and a leading guitarist in France. He won a string of international guitar competitions including the Pujol, Paganini and Taranto and is described as one of the most original talents of his generation. He is a specialist in romantic music from the 19th century and was the first guitarist to perform and record on the Grobert guitar owned by Nicollo Paganini -later given to Hector Berlioz- as well as on the Lacôte guitar owned by Napoleon Coste which are held in the musical. It is preserved and on display in the Musée de la Musique in La Villette, Paris. Philippe teaches at the Conservatoire of Reims and performs and teaches all over the world, most recently at festivals and conservatoires in Valencia, LA, Istanbul, New York and Stuttgart. He plays an original Coffe-Goguette guitar from 1835.
