Mark van de Wiel and the Brodsky Quartet play Mozart and Phibbs

Joseph Phibbs 50th birthday concert

Mozart Adagio and Fugue in C minor, K. 546
Zebeljan Dark Velvet (London Premiere)
Joseph Phibbs Clarinet Quintet (World Premiere)
Joseph Phibbs Trip (World Premiere)
Mozart Clarinet Quintet in A, K581

Acclaimed clarinettist Mark van de Wiel joins the renowned Brodsky Quartet to present Mozart’s sublime Clarinet Quintet at Kings Place, alongside two world premieres by Joseph Phibbs: the Clarinet Quintet and ‘Trip’ for solo clarinet.

Opening with Mozart’s dramatic Adagio and Fugue, the Brodsky Quartet also introduces the London premiere of Isidora Žebeljan’s sumptuous Dark Velvet, inspired by Mahler. The new works by Joseph Phibbs, celebrating the composer’s 50th birthday, are commissioned by Mark van de Wiel and Jouko Heikura. They follow a highly successful collaboration on Phibbs’ Clarinet Concerto of 2017, premiered with the Philharmonia, featuring ‘the breathtaking musicianship and virtuosity of the soloist, Mark van de Wiel. What Phibbs is able to conjure throughout the work is enormously impressive.’ (Classical Source 2018)
