Peter Hill will guide the audience through an exploration of Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, before a full performance by renowned clarinetist Michael Collins and the acclaimed Paddington Trio. A masterpiece composed during his imprisonment in World War II, despite its harsh origins, this profound work transcends its historical context, offering a meditation on eternity and spirituality.
This event will last approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes, including an interval.
After this Masterclass event, in celebration of its 15th anniversary, Chamber Studio will take over the small venues in Kings Place for an afternoon of chamber music by some of the UK’s most promising young professional ensembles. These immersive sessions are free and open to the public.

About Michael Collins:
Clarinettist Michael Collins is one of the most admired musicians of his generation. With a distinguished career as a soloist and in great demand as a chamber musician, he has in recent years also become highly regarded as a conductor.
About Peter Hill:
Peter Hill is one of the foremost experts on the music of Olivier Messiaen, as well as being one of the finest British pianists of his generation. Hill’s complete Messiaen cycle was described as ‘one of the most impressive solo recording projects of recent years’ (New York Times), and received the endorsement of Messiaen himself, with whom he worked in Paris while preparing the recordings – ‘Beautiful technique, a true poet: I am a passionate admirer of Peter Hill’s playing.’

Seen as the one of the most exciting chamber ensembles of their generation, the Paddington Trio won first prizes in the 70th Royal Over-Seas League Competition for Strings & Piano Ensemble, the 2024 Triomphe de l’Art International Competition, 2024 Storioni Concours, 2023 Parkhouse Award at Wigmore Hall, among others.
