The concert begins with Thomas Weelkes’s Grant the King a Long Life, which is believed to have been performed at King James’ coronation, and ends with Tomkins’s setting of the same text. Thea Musgrave’s monumental Rorate Caeli forms a centre piece twinned with Byrd’s own anthem and Psalms from the Wode Psalter, harmonised by 16th century Scottish composer David Peebles.
This event will last approximately 2 hours, including an interval.
