During the First World War, a new music was emerging on both sides of the channel. In this concert Paul Watkins and his brother Huw explore cello sonatas of Delius and Bridge with the radical experiment of Webern, Nadia Boulanger’s spirited miniatures and Faure’s radically expressive first sonata with its sombre funeral march. Interleaving the music will be readings from the composers’ letters and poetry of the time, read by award-winning actor Sam West.
