Ravel | String Quartet in F |
Known as one of the world’s most innovative and respected ensembles, Attacca Quartet hold the space between bringing a fresh approach to the classical repertoire while exploring and championing contemporary repertoire, electronica, video game music and contemporary collaborations.
For this special performance, Ravel’s youthful String Quartet will be paired with the UK Premiere of American composer David Lang’s new quartet, daisy, whose co-commissioners include Parabola Foundation/Kings Place. The latter was inspired by a 1964 TV commercial for Lyndon Johnson’s presidential election campaign. “A little ironic”, in Lang’s own words, since Johnson “had campaigned for president as the candidate who promised not to destroy the world”, but his presidency eventually led to “the massive escalation of USA’s presence in Vietnam.”
Attacca Quartet’s new recording of the Ravel String Quartet is released on Platoon on 7 March.
This performance will last approximately 75 minutes, without an interval.
