For her second concert in our Beethoven 250 series, peerless period violinist Rachel Podger and pianist Christopher Glynn embark on a journey through the composer’s forebears towards his vivacious first violin sonata. Beethoven revelled in the daring, ingenious music of CPE Bach, and Podger has chosen a dazzling sonata. Alongside Mozart’s sublime C major sonata the duo will play, for the first time, the beautiful fragment Fantasia in C minor K 396, in a new completion by Prof. Tim Jones. Begun in the first flush of Mozart’s infatuation with the music of JS and CPE Bach, it’s full of chromatic daring and pathos.
‘Superb: serene virtuoso fluency… genuinely, effortlessly and naturally different.’ Gramophone
