Sirocco is pure joy and energy – a great storm of music that celebrates the incredible warmth and diversity of folk traditions from across the globe. This is music for the people, by the people.

Joining Manchester Collective for the world premiere of this unique collaboration is Abel Selaocoe’s band, Chesaba, a trio specialising in the performance of music from the African continent. Witnessing Abel perform is a truly awe-inspiring experience – his performances seem to fill the air with a fizzing energy, and invariably raise goosebumps on the arms of his audiences.

The programme covers everything from a virtuosic arrangement of Giovanni Sollima’s inspired Lamentatio, darkness and light by Ravel and Haydn, a set of original African work performed for the first time, and two gorgeous Danish folk songs to round off the night.
