Renowned vocalist and composer Lore Lixenberg presents her new project: Conlon Nancarrow’s Studies for Player Piano in surround sound. These iconic works, which inspired the writing of Ligeti, Carter, Reich and so many others, have been transcribed for piano and ensemble before, but never before for the human voice. She sings one part live with pre-recorded tracks of her own voice coming through different channels. As she writes, ‘When you perform the rolls ‘live’ you get the mechanical inevitability of the pre-recorded voices with the visceral excitement of witnessing someone attempting the dizzying complex polyrhythms in the moment.’ Prepare for thrilling virtuosity and a kaleidoscopic, immersive experience.
