‘Haas’s intricate web of sonorities is astonishing…by turns entrancing, nerve-racking and highly seductive.’ The Times

Immerse yourself in total darkness for a performance of GF Haas’s Solstices, an epic sensory experience of tuning, listening and beauty, played by Riot Ensemble musicians from memory, until its miraculous illuminated coda. This was the work they premiered, to wide acclaim, at Iceland’s Dark Music Days festival in 2019: it requires the musicians, including a pianist performing on a precisely de-tuned piano, to respond to improvised cues, communicating with each other by sound alone.

Riot Ensemble connects people to great contemporary music in events that are as innovative, vibrant and rewarding as the music itself. Riot is active in bringing international voices to the British music scene and since 2012 has given over 200 World and UK premieres. In 2020 the group won the prestigious Ernst von Siemens Ensemble Prize and began a three-year residency at Kings Place.
