Scotland Unwrapped

Glasgow-based folk-indie group Admiral Fallow (Louis Abbott, Kevin Brolly, Phil Hague, Sarah Hayes and Joe Rattray) make their Kings Place debut as part of Scotland Unwrapped.

Admiral Fallow has released 3 beloved studio albums, the most recent of which had three singles – Sleepwalking, Dragonfly and Tuesday Grey – received airplay on BBC Radio 6Music and BBC Scotland. A group of versatile musicians all uniquely in demand for their skills, the individual band members also find the time to tour and record with renowned artists such as King Creosote, Emma Pollock, Field Music, The Proclaimers, Deacon Blue, Kings Place Artist in Residence Karine Polwart, Kris Drever and many others.

Their much-anticipated fourth studio album, The Idea of You, was released via legendary Scottish label Chemikal Underground in November 2021. This captivating collection of songs – generously melodic, confidently executed and festooned with intricacies – was warmly praised by Mojo (★★★★), The Skinny (★★★★) and Uncut Magazine (“…beguiling melodic uplift”). Three singles from the record, Sleepwalking, Dragonfly and Tuesday Grey, received airplay on BBC Radio 6Music and BBC Scotland.

Over their 16 years together, the band have taken their music around the world, touring the UK, Europe, North America and Australia. Further career highlights include a commission from Glasgow Film Festival, performing with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and creating an ambitious new chamber opera. Navigate The Blood was co-written with Gareth Williams and Sian Evans and toured eight Scottish distilleries in November 2018.

The original date for this event was Sat 23 Nov.  Please note the event will last approximately 2 hours, including an interval.

Iona Lane

Driven by awe and wonder of the natural world, Iona Lane delivers poetic songs, with subtle musical touches and contemplative melodies that link unheard stories with the world we find ourselves in today.

Hallival is the long-awaited debut album from Glasgow-based folk singer and songwriter Iona Lane. Having found herself fascinated by folklore and folk stories from across the UK Hallival is inspired by natural landscapes, scientific discoveries, equality, human relationships and the supernatural, all tied together by a strong sense of place and a love for being in wild places – creating something truly special.

Hallival charted at #36 in the Official Folk Album Charts and was named by Folk Radio UK as #27 in their Top Albums of 202. The album received widespread press including in The Guardian, WalkHighlands, BBC Radio 2 and The Scotsman to name a few. In 2023 Iona toured Hallival extensively across the UK, The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and joined Karine Polwart on a run of her tour dates in England. Iona joined Karine on stage for a few songs, an awe-inspiring opportunity for audiences to see these two artists sing together.

‘Time and tide wash through this debut… delivered in a light, melodious voice and with engaging conviction’ The Scotsman
