Söndörgő is one of the most exciting, innovative and successful bands on the international music scene, characterised by the primordial nature of traditional music, the sophistication of classical compositions, the energy of rock music and the purity of Bartók’s thinking.
When Söndörgő formed more than a quarter of a century ago, its current members were still children who went on to grow up with the band. Four of the five members come from the same family of musicians: three brothers (Áron, Benjamin and Salamon Eredics) and cousin (Dávid Eredics). Their spiritual backbone is the legendary Vujicsics Ensemble, which has been performing authentic South Slavic folk music for close to fifty years, with fathers, uncles and other members of the Eredics family.
Four members of the Eredics family teach at the Department of Folk Music at the Budapest Academy of Music. In accordance with Zoltán Kodály’s ideals, the musical education of Söndörgő’s members begin before birth. Deeply connected to the roots of their musical heritage, what they are truly interested in however is not what traditional music once meant, but what it can mean today and tomorrow.
The group have collaborated with Snarky Puppy, Chris Potter, Márta Sebestyén, Fercho Mustafov, Avi Avital, Vilde Frang, Daniel Hope and many more. In September they released their new album, Live At Müpa, again through GroundUP Music.
This event will last approximately 110 minutes, including an interval.
