Led by Helen Wallace (Programme Director at Kings Place), this pre-concert talk centres around two significant works in Aurora Orchestra’s Pioneers concert in Hall One tonight.
Composer Charlotte Bray and Dana Denis-Smith (First 100 Years) discuss Charlotte’s new work, The Certainty of Tides, commissioned by the First 100 Years, a project charting the journey of women in law since 1919. Written for cello and strings, this new commission celebrates the 100th anniversary of the landmark legislation that paved the way for women to enter the legal profession in the UK.
Conductor Duncan Ward also discusses the long-neglected music of Louise Farrenc, a towering musical figure in 19th-century France, who was admired by many of her contemporaries for her accomplishments as a concert pianist, composer and teacher.
