Ethan Iverson Residency: Raising Hell with Henry Purcell

The muse of Henry Purcell acts as the stimulus for a series of collaborations with a new wave of British improvisers – Brigitte Beraha, Kim Macari, Olie Brice, and the Lume saxophone team of Cath Roberts and Dee Byrne.

Following a decade as pianist and composer with one of the seminal small bands of recent times, The Bad Plus, Ethan Iverson expands horizons with a Kings Place residency that reflects a fascination with the twists and turns of British music – from free improvisation to the art of the British jazz composer, from ragtime to Purcell and Constant Lambert. As eloquent as creator of the blog Do the Math as he is at a piano keyboard, Iverson’s insights into the past, present and future of jazz within a bigger world picture are incisive, revealing, affectionate and controversial by turns. His role as curator brings all these talents together in three days of original and absorbing music-making, in the company with some of the UK scene’s movers and shakers.
