Multi award-winning German pianist Michael Wollny returns to London to present his new trio albums Oslo and Wartburg on the prestigious ACT label with Christian Weber (bass) and Eric Schaefer (drums).
Renowned for his unconventional thinking, his unpredictable quest for the new and his courage to devote himself to the moment, Wollny is justifiably known as the ‘most exciting contemporary German jazz pianist’ (Die Welt). He occupies the ever-shifting ground between jazz, classical and new music. This is improvising at the limit, life seen through a dream.
The trio’s unique combination of outstanding technique and individual skills, inexhaustible creativity and instinctive interaction, make their live performance thrilling.
‘The consummate piano maestro: one can justifiably name Wollny alongside phenomena like Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Brad Mehldau, Stefano Bollani and Paul Bley. He has everything you can demand of a perfect jazz pianist: masterly technique, exuberant imagination, discipline and a talent for creative chaos, sensitivity and aestheticism.’ Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
