This matinee show brings together two of the UK’s most distinctive voices in ambient music. Shell Company’s textured, atmospheric compositions sit alongside Memotone’s genre-blurring soundscapes, creating a concert that moves slowly and deliberately, built for close listening and reflection.
Expect an intimate daytime setting that strips away the noise of a typical night out, offering space to absorb two artists working at the more contemplative edge of jazz.
The event is produced entirely by participants in the Milestones programme, a professional development scheme for young people building careers across the live music industry. Over five months, the cohort has worked directly with Serious, producers of the EFG London Jazz Festival, to deliver this one-off show.
This event will last approximately 2 hours, including an interval.

Shell Company create tidal sound, swelling and receding with quiet emotional undertow. The Manchester/Glasgow trio blend modern jazz with psychedelic rock, with hushed, poetry-laced vocals drifting through slow-building ambience. Sounds for the small hours: the walk home after a night out, the quiet unravelling of a long day. Their newest release, Locket, wraps whispered vocals in digital textures. Produced with FUMU and featuring guest artists Richie Culver and LINTD, it was released on Accidental Meetings, the trio’s label.
Memotone is Will Yates, a composer who treats instruments as conversation partners rather than tools. Clarinet, zither and looped percussion pass through his hands as he builds sound live, part composed, part improvised. His music moves through jazz, drone and contemporary classical, favouring atmosphere over easy definition. His latest album, Warm Shadows, released this year on Accidental Meetings, features collaborators Ugné Uma and percussionist Typesun, creating a record that feels both intricate and unhurried. Championed by broadcasters including Gilles Peterson, Yates brings nearly two decades of experience to a set shaped by instinct as much as design.
