Leigh Pfeffer and Emma Nagouse unravel the unique challenges of making compelling podcasts – and the ins and out of how they craft their hugely popular shows for a range of different audiences.

Emma Nagouse (she/her) is writer and head of research on the BBC history comedy podcast You’re Dead to Me and one third of the award-winning writing team behind BBC Radio 4’s Homeschool History. Emma is a trade union activist and a PhD researcher on religion, gender violence and contemporary TV. Ziggy the cat is her main research assistant.

Leigh Pfeffer (they/them) is host and producer of History is Gay, a podcast that examines the overlooked and underappreciated queer ladies, gents, and gentle-enbies from the unexplored corners of history. They are also especially passionate about TV, comics, and the importance of LGBTQ representation on-screen and off. When not working on podcasts or roaming about academic circles, they enjoy seeing hopeful and representative queer stories reflected in media, new comic book Wednesdays, drinking tea, petting all the dogs, and fighting the patriarchy.
