From Bible stories to re-envisioning the work of great artists, Aviva Dautch and Jacqueline Saphra explore, with conversation and readings, what it means to be a Jewish woman poet. Previously poet-in-residence at the Jewish Museum and commissioned by Bradford Literature Festival and the British Museum, Dautch has read her work on Radio 4 and at the Southbank Centre. Saphra’s 100 Lockdown Sonnets is the latest landmark in a career that has including a Saboteur Award, Guardian poem of the month and making the TS Eliot Prize shortlist with All My Mad Mothers.

Aviva Dautch is Executive Director of Jewish Renaissance magazine, an academic and poet. Poetry commissions include the British Museum for Refugee Week, and Hay and Bradford Literature Festivals for the Gustav Klimt Centenary. A sequence of her poems were published in Primers Three (Nine Arches Press: 2018). Aviva received an Author’s Foundation Award from The Society of Authors to work on her first collection, We Sigh For Houses, which was the subject of a BBC Radio 4 poetry programme in August 2020.

Jacqueline Saphra’s second collection, All My Mad Mothers, was shortlisted for the 2017 T.S. Eliot Prize and was followed by Dad, Remember You are Dead in 2019, both from Nine Arches Press. A Bargain with the Light: Poems after Lee Miller (2017) and Veritas: Poems after Artemisia (2020) are both published by Hercules Editions. Jaqueline’s next book, One Hundred Lockdown Sonnets will be out from Nine Arches Press in January 2021.
